Smart Recycling Bin

The design concept of the sensor-activated recycling bin stems from the current situation in Hong Kong, where, although recycling bins are available in public housing estates and residential areas, some individuals mistakenly place recyclable items—such as paper—into the wrong bins. In addition, hygiene is often neglected; the lids of recycling bins can easily become contaminated with bacteria, posing a risk of cross-infection. To address these issues, we created a sensor-based recycling bin. When a user approaches, the lid opens automatically, allowing for completely touch-free use. This reduces the chances of contact with germs and enhances the overall hygienic experience. The exterior of the recycling bin features popular anime characters to attract teenagers and encourage their participation in recycling. We’ve also introduced a points reward system: users can accumulate points through recycling and redeem them for various gifts—such as environmentally friendly products featuring anime character designs.
